Odawara and Hakone are just to the south of Tokyo towards Kyoto. Odewara Castle is where Shintaro the Samurai from TV used to meet the Shogun's men. Hakone was also the gateway to Edo, the Shogun's power base, before it became Tokyo, the Eastern Capital. We walked what's left of the famous Tokaido trail between Kyoto and Edo here. Hakone is also a beautiful natural area where the best views of Mount Fuji can be seen from cable cars and pirate ships.
